European Health Data Space Regulation Enters into Force

UK Version of GDPR

Regulation 2025/327, establishing the European Health Data Space (EHDS), officially entered into force on March 5, 2025. The EHDS aims to empower EU citizens with greater control over their electronic health records and facilitate cross-border healthcare services. It also enables the secure secondary use of health data for research, innovation, and public health policy. Member States have until 2027 to implement these rules domestically. For healthcare providers, insurers, and health-tech companies, this will mean new obligations for interoperability, consent management, and cybersecurity. The EHDS represents a landmark effort to create a unified European approach to health data governance.
